Beautiful Demoiselle

One of the larger members of the damselfly family, Beautiful Demoiselles are found in the southern half of Ireland. Flying from late April to August, they are found along fast-flowing,clean streams. Males are very colourful, showing a metallic blue-green body and iridescent veins. Females are greener and lack that iridescence on the wings. This male Beautiful Demoiselle was photographed at Abbeyleix Bog, Co. Laois in July 2022.
