Otter

95.00

While Otters are found throughout Ireland, their secretive behaviour can make them difficult to see. Sometimes the only indication of their presence is when they scent mark by leaving their droppings (spraint). Found in lakes, rivers and reservoirs, they are equally at home fishing in coastal bays and beaches. Using burrows called holts, up to three cubs will be born, remaining with the adults as a family group for up to seven months. This adult Otter was fishing in a small coastal inlet in west Cork in October 2009.
