About Us

Our Story

Our aim, in this most recent photographic collection, Moments in Nature, is to present you with a visual experience of a selection of Irish Birds, Butterflies, Moths, Insects and Mammals. Our mission is to reinterpret the energy and beauty of these subjects through the lens of a camera.

Wildlife doesn't worry about yesterday or ponder the future... it lives in the constantly shifting state of now. With our photography, we hope to draw you into their world.

Eric Dempsey

Bird and Wildlife Photographer

I was first inspired by nature when my mother lifted me up to look out the kitchen window to watch a female House Sparrow feeding her chicks. I was no more than three years old then and was instantly hooked by the natural world around me. To this day, I still possess that sense of wonder in nature. It is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.

For my 21st birthday, my generous parents presented me with my first 'real' camera; a Minolta SLR with a Tamron 500mm mirror lens. This allowed me the opportunity to capture moments in nature for the first time. Now, 40 years later, using a Canon R7 mirrorless body with Canon 100-500mm and 500mm prime lenses, my aim is to share these special moments with a wider audience. To date, my photography has appeared in various journals throughout the world and my images are a core element to the numerous public, private and corporate events I speak at. Sharing my sense of wonder in nature with an audience is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my work.

I have also been lucky to get an opportunity to write and am the author of ten bird and wildlife books including Ireland's Wildlife Year, Finding Birds in Ireland, the Complete Field Guide to Ireland's Birds and my memoirs, Don't Die in Autumn. I have made numerous TV appearances, have presented and written several radio documentaries, and am a team member of the popular Mooney Goes Wild Show on RTE Radio 1.

I was born and raised in Finglas in north Dublin but am now enjoying life with Hazel in our small piece of wildness we call home in Co. Wicklow.

Hazel Johnston

Creature Happiness Agent

I also share a love of nature, birds and all things wild since being knee high to a grasshopper. Growing up on a farm in Co. Wicklow, provided a privileged childhood with an unlimited amount of wild and wonderful adventures. Having gone on to spend 30 years working with humans within the confines of an aluminum tube, whilst jetting across continents and time zones, I hugely appreciated the opportunity to return to the townland of my birthplace to create a home fit for myself and the many creatures that would find their way here. Meeting and marrying Eric was the long-awaited missing jigsaw piece. Together, we run the small bird photography business from our home 'Lodge Sycamore Hill' where the surrounding wilderness garden provides a tranquil habitat for some of the wildlife which are captured in this series of photographs.
