Is your group interested in Birds?
Book me, Eric ‘the Birdman’ Dempsey, for a captivating talk on our changing seasons or for a motivational talk on my new book, 'Don’t Die in Autumn'.
TOPIC 1 A Year of Birds – a photographic journey of the seasons
This is a new series of inspirational talks based on Ireland’s changing seasons. I know birds! I should know them because I’ve been watching birds since I was a toddler… and that’s not today or yesterday! I have written eight books on Ireland’s birds, am a team member of RTE’s Mooney Goes Wild show, photograph birds and spend my life speaking about birds. In fact, my life’s journey with birds has now been captured in my latest book, Don’t Die In Autumn – A Memoir. It’s a funny feeling to have written a memoir…I feel too young to have written a memoir.
As a speaker, I have hosted workshops and presentations throughout the country including the National Museum of Ireland’s prestigious ‘spring lecture’ series on two occasions as well as to a fully booked out ticketed audience of 500 people at Farmleigh House.
I have now developed a new series of inspirational talks based on Ireland’s changing seasons and how our bird populations move and change with the seasons. As I capture new images, these talks are also evolving and changing themselves but are always visually captivating as well as informative, relaxed, entertaining, inspiring and fun.
TOPIC 2 Don’t Die In Autumn – A Life of Birds
I know what it’s like to take chances in life. I know how difficult it can be to take that one big life-changing step into a new world. That moment when you take that deep breath and set sail on a new adventure in life. In fact, my life’s journey has now been captured in my latest book, Don’t Die In Autumn – a memoir. It’s a funny feeling to have written a memoir…I feel too young to have written a memoir. However, the feedback from readers all over the world to my book has been overwhelmingly positive.
I have now developed a new inspirational talk based on my book that brings you on my life journey. It tells of my childhood discovery of a sense of wonder in the world around me as I grew up in the working class suburbs of north Dublin to travelling the world, from near-death experiences to changing my life to seek happiness in what I do. This is my story; a story of a young boy pursuing and achieving life dreams.
Using original stunning original images, I will present a relaxed, entertaining, inspiring and fun talk which will make you reflect, smile, perhaps even cry…and everything else in between! I now live with my lovely wife, Hazel, in the rolling hills and coastlines of Newcastle, Co. Wicklow. I am a professional speaker, photographer, broadcaster, guide and author of eight books on Ireland’s birds and natural heritage.
In the midst of the hardships and disappointments we all navigate these times, may I encourage you to be inspired and rejuvenated by Eric's truly inspirational talk. It will not only distract you from your personal and work related challenges but will lift your perspective! It has the capacity to change you from the inside out!
One of the most exciting Saturdays I have ever spent… and what a treat. I would like to thank Eric for imparting a ton of fabulous knowledge on birds and associated subjects like feeding, origin and migration and much much more. If you are lucky enough like I was to attend one of his workshops, you will be mesmerised by his delivery and the way he imparts this kniowledge and how his love of this subject jumps right out at you and hugs you, until you can hardly breath with excitement, while you try to retain and internalise his every word. Quite amazing.
